Terms of Service
Last updated: 9 September 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Legally Smart Teens at legallysmarteens.com (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you (or, if you're 13–15, you and your parent/guardian together) agree to these Terms.
Note on this document: this is drafted to accurately describe how the Service actually operates today — eligibility rules, payment flow, refund handling, and content licensing all match the real product. It should still be reviewed by a qualified solicitor before you rely on it as final and binding — in particular to confirm the legal entity name, registered address, governing law, and the refund window in Section 6, which is a business decision for you to set.
1. Not legal advice
Legally Smart Teens teaches the law — it does not practise it. Every course is general legal education for young people, not legal advice for any specific situation. Using the Service, completing a course, or receiving a certificate does not create a lawyer-client relationship between you and Legally Smart Teens, its instructors, or anyone else. If you need advice about a real, specific legal problem, please speak to a qualified lawyer or a relevant support organisation.
2. Who can use the Service
- The Service is intended for learners aged 13 and up. It is not intended for children under 13, and signup does not offer an age band below 13.
- If you are 13–15, a parent or guardian must confirm consent (via an email link we send them) before you can enrol in any course. Until that happens, your account exists but course access is on hold.
- If you are 16 or older, you can create and manage your own account without guardian consent.
- Instructor and admin accounts are created or promoted by us and carry additional responsibilities and access to learner data, used strictly to run and support the Service.
3. Your account
- Give us accurate information, and keep your password confidential — you're responsible for activity on your account.
- One account per person. Don't share your login with someone else.
- We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, misuses the Service, or poses a safeguarding risk to other users — especially given many of our users are minors.
- You can request deletion of your account at any time from Dashboard → Settings (see our Privacy Policy for how that works).
4. Course content and licence
- When you enrol in a course (free or paid), we grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-commercial licence to access and view that content for your own learning, for as long as your enrolment remains active (some enrolments have an expiry date, shown on the course).
- Course videos, text, quizzes, and downloadable materials are owned by Legally Smart Teens or its instructors and protected by copyright. You may not download, screen-record, redistribute, resell, or publicly share course content, except through features we explicitly provide (e.g. a downloadable certificate or attachment).
- Attempting to bypass content protection (e.g. signed video URLs, download restrictions) is a violation of these Terms.
5. Certificates
Completing a course may issue you a certificate, verifiable by its unique code at /certificates/verify. A certificate reflects completion of that course's content on our platform — it is not a professional qualification, licence, or credential unless a specific course explicitly says otherwise.
6. Payments, pricing, and refunds
- Prices are shown in the currency we've configured for the Service and may include sales tax where applicable. Payments are processed securely by our payment provider, Fygaro — we never see or store your full card details.
- Coupons and gift codes are subject to any conditions shown at checkout or on the code itself, and have no cash value.
- Memberships/subscriptions renew automatically at the stated interval until you cancel; you can cancel anytime from your dashboard, effective at the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds: if a course hasn't been substantially accessed, you may request a refund within [X] days of purchase by contacting info@legallysmarteens.com. Once a course has been substantially completed, or a certificate issued, it's generally not eligible for refund. This doesn't affect any refund right you have under applicable consumer law.
7. Live classes
Some courses include scheduled live sessions, hosted either in-app (via an embedded video room) or via a Zoom/Google Meet link the instructor shares. Be on your best behaviour — the conduct rules in Section 8 apply to live sessions too. If a session will be recorded, the instructor will say so beforehand.
8. Acceptable use
When using discussions, Q&A, notes, reviews, or live classes, you agree not to:
- Post anything abusive, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate for a platform built for teenagers.
- Share another user's personal information without their consent.
- Cheat on quizzes/assignments or help someone else do so in a way that misrepresents their own understanding.
- Attempt to access another user's account or data, or interfere with the Service's security.
You can flag/report content you believe breaks these rules. Safeguarding concerns are reviewed as a priority — see our Safeguarding & Child Protection page and our Contact page.
9. Gamification
Points, streaks, badges, and the leaderboard are for motivation and fun — they have no cash value, aren't transferable, and may be adjusted, reset, or removed at any time. If you have earned points, your name and score are visible to other signed-in learners on the leaderboard.
10. Third-party sign-in and services
If you sign in with Google or Apple, your use of that provider is also subject to its own terms. The same applies to any Zoom or Google Meet link you join for a live class. We aren't responsible for those third parties' services, availability, or policies.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is". We work to keep it accurate, available, and secure, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Legally Smart Teens is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the Service; nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited (for example, liability for fraud or, where applicable, personal injury).
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of [governing jurisdiction].
